I dusted the counter and admired the craftsmanship. “It’s really all mine,” I thought to myself. After graduating from the prestigious School of Culinary Arts in Vienna, an instructor advised me from there. He suggested I work somewhere in the city, and while it was nice being in a world-class city for these years of schooling, I was a rural farm-boy at heart, having grown up on the family farm in Denmark. I yearned for the small-town life, and wished to run a small bakery somewhere in the country.

Rand walked out into the garden. Grando, his master and instructor, had announced he wished to have a meeting this afternoon. It was a bright, early spring morning. Up here in the mountains, the snow tended to linger well into spring, but the garden appeared clear and as spring-like as the lowlands no doubt were by now. Bernard the groundskeeper was certainly earning his keep. Grando had probably sent Bernard off for the day. He had probably gone down to the village, where he was even now spending his earnings on ale and sausages.

The Sorcerer's PrankAlcor stormed angrily through his study. He tried to relax and concentrate on his work, but he was too irritated. How many cruel pranks had it been? He had lost count. The young sorcerer fumed as he looked out of his window on to the zigzag profile of jagged peaks in the distance.
